Explanation

A lost or stolen credential can be replaced through a myBMV.com account or at a BMV Connect kiosk, as long as the name and residential address haven’t changed. Online replacement has a cap: no more than 10 times before a branch visit is required for a replacement.

If any other information besides the mailing address has changed, online replacement isn’t available at all — a BMV branch visit is required within 30 days of the change, with the documents described in Appendix A.

Example

A driver whose wallet is stolen logs into myBMV.com to order a replacement license, since her name and address haven’t changed. This is her third online replacement, well under the limit of 10.

Common mistake

Trying to replace a credential online after a name change. The manual requires a branch visit within 30 days whenever information other than the mailing address has changed.

What the manual says

You may replace your credential online a maximum of 10 times before you are required to visit a BMV branch for a replacement.

if any other information has changed, you cannot order a replacement online and you must visit a BMV branch to amend your credential within 30 days of the change and present documents as described in Appendix A.
