Explanation

Point values reflect the severity and history of a violation or accident. The speeding examples rise by range: 1–15 mph over is 2 points, 16–25 mph over is 4 points, and 26 mph or more over is 6 points.

Example

A violation 20 mph over the limit falls in the 16–25 mph range, so the listed value is 4 points.

Common mistake

Using the lower range at a boundary. Sixteen mph over belongs in the 16–25 range, and 26 mph over belongs in the 26+ range.

What the manual says

Points vary for speeding violations.
