Explanation

Traffic guidance signs provide drivers with information about the type of road they are traveling on, upcoming highway entrances and exits, and distances to various destinations. Green signs indicate permitted movements and directions or guidance, such as highway entrances and exits or distances to upcoming destinations. White signs can give helpful information such as state highway markers.

The manual’s guidance signs are Airport, Bus Station, Posted Distances, Highway Exits, Advance Guide Sign, Mileage Indicator, and the route markers State Road, US Highway and Interstate.

Example

A green sign lists Brookston 10, Lafayette 19, Indianapolis 82. It is a guidance sign giving the distances to upcoming destinations.

Common mistake

Mixing up green and blue signs. Green signs give guidance such as highway entrances, exits and distances; blue signs display road services and information.
