Chapter 1 · Lesson 8 of 21
Supervised practice hours and log
4 min read · Obtaining a New Credential
Explanation
Complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice. For a driver’s license applicant who is at least 18, at least 10 of those hours must be at night, unless the learner’s permit has a daytime-only restriction (restriction G). With that restriction, the 50-hour total still applies.
State Form 54706, the Log of Supervised Driving Practice, documents the hours. Multiple logs may be used if necessary. When the applicant is under 18, a parent or legal guardian signs the log.
Example
A 19-year-old applicant records 50 supervised hours, including 10 at night, across two log sheets and submits them with the license application.
Common mistake
Treating 10 night hours as the full practice requirement. They are part of the 50-hour total.
What the manual says
