Explanation

A permit holder age 18 or older may practice with a licensed driver who has valid privileges and is at least 25, or with a licensed spouse who is at least 21.

A learner under 18 in DCS care may practice with a qualifying licensed relative age 25 or older. The learner may instead use a licensed driver age 25 or older who is approved by DCS and sits in the front passenger seat.

Example

An adult permit holder practices with a licensed 26-year-old. Separately, a learner in DCS care practices with a licensed 25-year-old whom DCS approved.

Common mistake

Assuming every adult passenger may supervise. The supervisor must meet the exact licensing, age and—in some cases—relationship or DCS-approval conditions.
