Speed advisory and speed regulation signs

Explanation

Speed advisory signs may accompany some warning signs. A rectangular sign can warn of a hazardous condition, such as an advisory speed for a sharp curve; this advisory speed sign is often posted with a diamond-shaped warning sign. The manual shows Speed Advisory at Exit, Speed Advisory at Roundabout, Speed Advisory on Ramp and Speed Limit Ahead.

Speed regulation: traffic regulation signs regulate traffic speed, and white signs display traffic regulations, such as speed limits, that drivers must obey. The manual’s regulation signs about speed include Minimum Speed, Speed Zone Ahead and Slower Traffic Keep Right.

Example

Before a sharp curve you see a diamond-shaped warning sign with an advisory speed sign posted with it. Together they warn you of the hazardous condition ahead and give an advisory speed for it.

Common mistake

Treating a speed limit like an advisory speed. Speed limits are traffic regulations that drivers must obey; advisory speed signs accompany warning signs about hazardous conditions.
